JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi State Troopers Association has created a fund to provide needed supplies for law enforcement officers working the recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

"The men and women of the (Mississippi Highway Patrol) and all other local law enforcement are working tirelessly to help but these usually polished officers are now muddy and dirty from search and rescue duties," said Master Sgt. Bobby Reed, president of the troopers association.
Reed said donations can be made through an account at Trustmark Bank.

In addition to monetary donations, Reed said law enforcement officers need:

Camel-back water packs, work gloves, rubber boots, socks, underwear, baby wipes, heavy-duty paper towels, tire plug kits to fix flats, toothpaste and filtered face masks.

Also, first aid kits, T-shirts, bed sheets, towels, air mattresses and sleeping bags, air compressors, foot powder and baby powder, calamine lotion, portable showers and mosquito repellent.

Items from the needed list may be dropped off in Raymond at the Hinds County Penal Farm.
