Geek Squad oppressed by The Man for "unique color scheme"
<A href="http://www.geeksquad.com/main.asp">Geek Squad is a PC support service owned by Minneapolis-based retailer Best Buy. Squad technicians dress like special agents and perform PC repair house calls. They drive VW bugs painted to look like cop cars -- and judging from the reaction of one Northern California police officer, the mod job is a little too convincing.
When Geek Squad "double agent" Mark Reardon was pulled over by the Highway Patrol on Interstate 680 near Walnut Creek in June, he wondered what he had done wrong. Then he found out. Reardon was ticketed because his company-owned Volkswagen Beetle too closely resembled a police car. "I was amazed," he said this week.

Now, the Geek Squad mobile computer technician service is repainting all of its 150 black and white Beetles to the CHP's liking. The CHP officer who stopped Reardon cited a state law that prohibits the painting of a privately owned or commercial vehicle to resemble a police car.

"Obviously it would be a pretty far shot to mistake a Volkswagen Beetle for a cruiser, but it comes down to protecting our unique color scheme," said Officer Steve Creel, a spokesman for the CHP's Dublin office. The officer who issued the citation is on vacation and unavailable for comment.

I wonder what they do with their old cruisers?

Do they burn them . . . sorry, that wouldn't be good for the environment!

Do they repaint all of them pink before they sell them?

RIght on . . . the comment about the land of fruits and nuts!

I didnt know CHP owned the color black and white. And I also didnt know the department seal was in a giant orange oval.

If someone thinks that a black & white VW Bug w/ the orange Geek Squad logo is a cop car, then they have larger problems. Actually, I have been contemplating if I should stop the Domino's delivery car. Everytime I see the lit up red and blue box on top of there cars I think it is an emergency vehicle.

Nahh, Dominoes sucks. Stop Sals pizza. MMMMM

That's definately fruity and nutty.

I wonder why they're repainting all the 150 vehicles... if they appeal the ticket and win I doubt they'll be any more problems. But this is California, so, yeah, they're fu-ked... they'll lose the appeal and get twice the fine.
