Hacked yet again! So long phpBB

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Posted by: Gil

Well today was the last straw! I am done with open source message boards. They are too easy for script kiddies to exploit and are just too much of a bother to maintain.

I will be attempting to figure out how this vBulletin software works over the next few days so bear with me.

Sorry for the down time it took a while to import the phpBB database and get all of the permissions set correctly.

You will probably have to upload your avatars again. Any other problems let me know.

Thanks for your understanding.

Gil

That sucks Gil - too many a-holes with too much time and not enough friends..
vBulletin is good though, I think the members will adapt quickly...

Thanks for getting the forums up so quickly.. KK

Wow vB I alwaysliked vB as it had a pretty clean look. Many of the other forums I post on are vB.

I wonder if some other bbs's got hacked. Hmmmm...

How about enabling the img tag in sig lines!!!

Posted by: reno911_2004

Woh boy, this one's gonna take a while...

Posted by: Cinderella

This looks great Gil

I am sure everyone will get the hang of it .. u did a great
job getting it up and running this quick!!

Posted by: Gil

People even script kiddies would first have to know about the other board even just to hack it lol . I tried the image line thing yesterday I will double check.

Am I deficient in brain cells, or has the "State Police Academy" sub-topic been turned into vapor?

Might have been vaporized either during the hack or the upgrade... I will look for it.

Some of the other boards were hacked again also.

Posted by: Gil

Thanks, smiles should be fixed now...

Posted by: kwflatbed

Thanks Gil !!!

Posted by: Wolfman

Sig images are up as well, thanks.

Looks likk the top border banner ads block the dropdowns from the menu bar (quick links, search, etc.) Any way to move the ads to the background & menu items up front?

Is there a link to bring the window up for the smiles or am I missing something? I was looking for those.

Posted by: Gil

What browser are you using? They popup above the banner on mine (IE) maybe it depends on the ad. I will see about moving it

On the right side of the "Reply to Thread" input box. 15 show by defaul but there are over 150 available just click on the [More] link below the 15 default ones.

Ok, I have all the bells and wistles now... I had to make a change in the "Edit Options" section of the user control panel (User CP), which can be brought up on the left side of the screen. Under "Miscellaneous Options" way down the bottom of the screen I changed the menu option to "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing". All the options came up then. Good work Gil, I like the new system. Your work is appreciated.

RE: the dropdowns being obscured. I'm using Firefox, it isn't happeneing now so either you got it fixed (you da MAN!!!) or it's one of those vexing intermittent things.

Posted by: kwflatbed

Wolfman what do you think of FireFox I was thinking of trying it?

I am not Wolfman but Firefox is very good. Almost every single page you can open with IE you can with Fierfox (95-98%). It has nice features and is simple to use. If you have problems with IE, get tons of popups, or want something new try Firefox.

One thing I’ve noticed Gil - the new format is remarkably faster that the PHP version was.

I cant believe how quickly topics open up now.

Yes I noticed that too, it's still php based but better codeing I guess. You get what you pay for (phpBB being free).

Some have mentioned that it looks like every other board out there but I guess that is because there are a lot of vB boards on the net. I have played with the idea of adding a few hacks to spice it up a bit but where this was purchased and I actually have tech support if I need it I am not sure I want to fudge with the code too much.

I will be looking for some other themes and adding them as I can but for now this is what we have.

As always I am open to suggestions and welcome your feedback.

I think that even the pics are showing up better a lot sharper.

like Reno said, this is going to take some time, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Just found this out on one of the vB support forums.....

phpbb2 with category hierarchy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heads up on this for anyone switching from phpbb2 with the category hierarchy mod. It only goes 1 deep.

Category (will import)
|
|
---- Forum (will import)
|
-----sub forum (will not import)

So before your import flatten your forum out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Too late now, sorry guys

Oh... I see.. the flux capacitor wasn't rerouted to the millenium falcon's warp drive transfer case, thus not enabling the sub-forum category heirarchy mod to load and mr. vB went poopies...

That Gil... makes perfect sense now...

Actually the flux capacitor was rerouted to the millenium falcon's warp drive transfer case, it was just in the wrong gear at the time of the space warp.
