Why is the Army and Air National Guard in the same category in the poll? I'm sure most will agree that they are completly different except for the fact that they both report to the governor. If you are in the National Guard I think it would be appropriate for you to add your name to either the Army or Air Force category.

Militia,

When I put togeather this poll, it would only allow me to put in so many poll choices, there for I chose to go with the 5 full time branches and combine the National Guard. It was never my intent to insult, demean, or other wise create hostilities in this pole.

I think it was a conspiracy to split up the Army votes to keep the USMC numbers higher.

Ohhhh Great, now we got the Conspiracy Theorists involved....

Posted by: militia_man

I don't think that it was a conspiracy or that any ill-intent was involved. I think it would have been more accurate to have just been left at Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. Then Army and Air National Guardsman could have just placed themselves in the Army or Air Force category because after all, that is the uniform they wear despite being National Guard.

Wow, what a tough crowd. I was only kidding.

Milita,

I understand your point, and agree with you, however, I was looking to see who was full time, Part time and which branch, but it didn't allow me to add more choices. you know how hind sight is 20/20. but no love lost. As the line from Hennry V goes, " For he who shall shed his blood with me today, shall be my brother" and in the end that is how I feel. any one who has served, reguardless of branch, full time or reserve, is my brother.

Still plugging along as a DoD cop at Westover. 2001-present. Just got offered a job at Groton, but just built a new home in Mass and it's two hours from Groton. Sure woul've liked to take it. Trying like heck to get off of mids. I keep volunteering for active duty orders just to stay off mids. Three weeks this time. When I get back Oct 3rd I'll be trying for more. Pretty sad, huh? Be safe everyone and glad to see folks are using the thread. Thanks again Gil.

Sorry.....you have to earn the right to say Semper Fi before you start using it. 11 months from now after you've been to PI and paid you dues and EARNED THE TITLE, feel free. Until that day you are still a civilian and not a Marine and have not earned it and do not understand what it really means.

I commend you on selecting the Corps and wish you the best of luck. A word of advice.....there are more MOS's in the Corps. than just 0311. Find something you will pick up a skill in and interests you. Don't sign and leave until you have exactly what you want....no matter what they say you are not locked into anything until you graduate at Parris Island. Ask your recruiter lots of questions......they can't lie/not answer but they can not tell you.

What mos were you?
Let the kid find out what he has EARNED when he gets to PI, and you are right, there are other options out there other than in the 03's. We call those other options support. So to the young man in the DEP good choice of MOS, it will not be a walk in the park by any means, but will pay off in the end, you dont get much sense of brotherhood when your an admin hound that believes the corps is made by polishing your boots and pressing your cammies.

I was 3381 Food Service Specialist. I enlisted 0311 and broke my feet during my time at PI. FINISHED BOOT ON 2 BROKEN FEET and after that the Corps decided I needed an MOS change and made me a cook. I wasn't knocking the 03's by any means.....a Marine is a Marine.....rifleman first and the MOS comes second. I was just making the guy aware that there is more to the Marine Corps than just 0311. There are so many options out there that NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT and the recruiters don't tell you.

atrain,

Easy on the admin hounds dog. They’re the one who make sure your pay is squared away while you’re out there on the line. And another thing, you couldn't do your job with out the help from us guys (and Galls) in support. Think about it, where would your Ammo come from with out the ammo techs? Or how about your comms with out the radio operators? Or what about when you drop your weapon in the dirt and all of a sudden your trigger group is fouled up, who's going to fix it? You? Probably that armorer. Then think about how you’re going to get your 4 fingers of death, in that lovely brown wrapped package, on the line. Ahhhhh good old Motor T. But now look at this? How would Motor-T get to you with out the engineers? Or for that mater who's doing the route recon and doing the armed escorts? Us 5811's, yup that’s right, US MP's are doing Recon work and protecting Motor-T. Not only that but when it come down to it, MP's in the field are the equivalent to a heavy machine gun Plt. Would you consider that Navy Medic that WE so affectionatly call "Doc",who humps in as much trash as you do into the field plus all his med gear to keep your ass alive if you take a round a POG? So where is the Brotherhood? Open your eyes and look around. I know where the Brotherhood is, fjmas knows where it is, SemperGumby knows, USMCTrooper knows, Do You?

Semper Fi, Brother

Amen and Well said fjmas! On a note about food service that is fitting with what I said above, Look what happened on Oct 3rd and 4th 1993 in Somalia. 99 Rangers, Delta Force, Seals, and a few Marines pinned down in the city, and who loaded up into Hummers and 5 tons to help them out? EVERYBODY. from ammo techs to Cooks. Thats right atrain, Cooks dropped their spatula's for M-16's, 249 SAW's and what ever else they could get their hands on in order to go out into the shit hole and get THEIR BROTHERS back.

Future, just make sure you read all the fine print on your contract. And, once you've paid your dues, There will be a buch of us Marines that will welcome you with arms wide open into the Brotherhood.

Here endith my sermon......

Well my military days are done! I leave with mixed emotions. I recieved a service connected disability from the last training/deployment. (Got hurt twice) So, I put in the retirement package in October. I won't get much, but, 21 years is enough I guess. Someone up there was telling me it's time. Be safe everyone and at least I'm working in the right place if this injury acts up...LOL!

what's the warn icon on my profile? something new?
