Durham, NH Police arrested a 59-year-old man at The Bagelry Friday after he allegedly exposed himself. Witnesses reported an older man exposing himself in The Bagelry Friday morning at about 11:30, Deputy Police Chief Rene Kelley said yesterday. Officers responded and found the alleged flasher, Frederick Schattuck, as he was trying to flee, he said.
Schattuck allegedly wore short shorts to The Bagelry and sat down so he could expose himself to young women, Kelley said. Friday's incident is the third report of an older man exposing himself to young women at The Bagelry, Kelley said, with previous reports coming on May 11 and June 3.
Kelley said Schattuck has an extensive criminal record of lewd behavior from Colorado and Massachusetts and, based upon his record, preyed upon communities with colleges or universities.
"He has a long history of this type of behavior, many convictions, many arrests," Kelley said, noting that Schattuck has been arrested at least 15 times.
Schattuck was arrested Friday at the intersection of Mill Road and Main Street, just outside The Bagelry, and subsequently gave officers a fake name, date of birth and address, Kelley said.
Schattuck is currently on probation for charges of indecent exposure in Colorado and was awaiting trial for similar charges in Massachusetts when he was nabbed Friday, Kelley said. Schattuck was also convicted of exposing himself to children in Colorado, he said.
Schattuck is from Brighton, Colo., a town just outside Denver, but was extradited to Massachusetts last month to face indecent exposure charges there from 1993 and is scheduled to go to trial this month in Dedham, Kelley said. Since returning to the area, Schattuck has been staying with a relative in Hillsborough, Kelley said.
Schattuck is charged with one count each of lewdness, false reports to police and misuse of license plates after police said he swapped the plates with another vehicle to evade identification, Kelley said. He was arraigned yesterday in Rochester District Court.
and ordered held on $25,000 cash bail, a high amount requested by police, Kelley said.
Police expect to charge Schattuck with two more counts of lewdness related to the previous incidents at The Bagelry, Kelley said. Schattuck's next court date is July 17 at Durham District Court.
