Pink Plates Proposed For Sex Offenders
Yellow Plates Already In Use For Drunken Drivers

Story by nbc4i.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Some Ohioans convicted of drunken driving can be seen driving vehicles with yellow license plates. If one Ohio lawmaker has his way, sexual predators could soon have to drive vehicles with pink license plates, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

The bright yellow license plates help law enforcement officers recognize drivers with multiple DUI convictions.

"We've sold over 16,000 in the past five years," said Fred Stratmann, of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

The pink plates could help notify police -- and parents -- of another type of offender.

"It identifies them," said Rep. Michael DeBose, (D) 12th District. "The primary reason they can prey is because they're camouflaged from who they really are."

DeBose introduced a bill this week in the Ohio House suggesting mandatory pink license plates for sexual offenders so children know to stay away, Tate reported.

"There's such a problem -- around rec centers, parks, school yards," he said. "There's no way to identify them and to protect children."

DeBose wants tough penalties for sexual predators who try to disguise themselves by removing their plates.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety isn't sure a sexual offense warrants a special plate as much as a drunken driving conviction does, Tate reported.

But DuBose said this crime deserves the color.

"It may act as a deterrent to keep them from driving around and causing trouble," he said.

sounds like a good idea to me, but what about when these turds are not in a vehicle?

USMCMP,
Sound like a good idea to me to but like you said what if they are not in a vehicle or the borrow a friends car or are in a company vehicle when they go to do there evil deeds? I think it would be easier just to shot them all.

That's a good idea also Mikey, however this is Assachusetts and the liberals would rather give them a time out in the corner.

Impractical, ineffective, idiotic.................................

Although the intention was good, people need to stop thinking up ways to identify or embarass persons who exhibit dangerous behaviors like OUI or Sexual Predation. What's the public safety impact there?

NONE! It's about prevention by educating kids and parents and public.

Here's my solution...................................

Put them in jail!!!!!!!!!!! Then electronically tag their licenses/etc if and when they get out.

To further expand on that, electronically tag the sex offender with a nice ankle bracelet for the rest of their existance, if they are not in jail where they should be for a lengthy period of time ANYWAY! Technology allows GPS to track anything these days (Hmm...cruisers). Technology allowes alarm companies to monitor their clients houses and hear exactly what is going on inside and detect movement. Lets use some of that technology and track every step these sex offender whack jobs do. Cut some money that is not needed for stupid rediculous things and set up a monitoring center under the oversight of the sex offender registry. Oh wait, most of the legislature are defense attorneys, that will never fly

Although I like the idea of the sex offenders being able to be picked out of a crowd so everyone knows, there are definately flaws with giving them colored license plates. As stated earlier, they can just use someone elses car.

Right now when we run a plate on PacketCluster, on the BOP screen where we get the instant reply, it shows Sex offender status level 1,2,3. It only take s a few seconds to get the whole thing and with CDMA it will be even faster.

I think it's a good idea. Not to embarass them, but to be another tool to help children know a sign of danger.

Although the prevention starts at home, when children should be learning "Stranger Danger"...but sometimes children can do nothing about it (kidnapped etc)...an ankle braclet also sounds like an excellent idea.

I think anything that would get these people in line is a good idea. It's sick how many sexual predators there are. It's sick how many children have been victims. I dunno, I just feel strongly that all these F'in dirtbags should be shot multiple times. Kill them in my opinion. They don't deserve a life.

I think it is a good idea, why not label the sickos? Drunk drivers and child molesters are a serious threat to society. For the diddlers, it should make them think twice about going anywhere near a playground or a schoolyard. The state shouldn't use pink though, because it's such a pretty color. "The Scarlett License Plate" rings a nicer bell. Label them, tattoo them, implant a damn GPS tracking chip in them if it will prevent them from offending again!

multiple DUI offenders should have their license taken AWAY.. suspending a persons license for a period is good for first and maybe second offenses. people make bad choices every once in a while, but driving is def a privilege..

Amen to branding, embarassing, or humiliating them anyway society can. If labeling prevents them from leaving the house that day, then thats one safer day.

But it DOESN"T work. Incarcerating/electronic tag/shooting does!

I agree with the shooting! Shoot any diddler within 100 feet of a child.

How about issuing the all the diddlers a big bright pink bumper sticker that reads "Kids keep away - I'm a pervert!"
