HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Police in Holyoke have arrested two men for exchanging drugs for guns.
The two men from Manchester, Vermont have been charged with illegal possession of a firearm. One of the men was charged with resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.
The arrests are the result of a seven month long investigation that began when one of the men contacted an undercover officer about exchanging drugs for guns in Holyoke. The guns included shotguns, rifles, and revolvers.
HOLYOKE - Two Vermont men were arrested about 6 p.m. yesterday on gun charges after a scuffle at the Holiday Inn, Police Capt. Arthur R. Monfette Jr. said today.
Detective Brian Duke was treated in the emergency room at Holyoke Medical Center for scratches and bruises after wrestling with Jordan Keagy of Manchester, Vt., one of the suspects, Monfette said.
Keagy, 21, of 522 Barnumville Road, Manchester, was charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, one count of resisting arrest, one count of trafficking in firearms, three counts of possession and carrying of a firearm without a license and one count of possessing ammunition without a firearms identification card.
The other suspect, Michael Wallner, 18, of 1174 Beech St., Manchester Center, Vt., was charged with three counts of possession and carrying of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition with a firearms identification card and one count of trafficking in firearms.
Monfette said undercover police bought a 38-caliber revolver from the men Thursday after having purchased a 22-caliber rifle and 12-gauge shotgun on earlier occasions.
The Hampden County Narcotics Task Force assisted in the arrests as the investigation had started out as a drug probe, Monfette said. The two suspects were held overnight in the Police Department lockup pending arraignment today in Holyoke District Court.
