Dozens of teens have been terrorizing the Taylor Avenue neighborhood for months, attacking residents on the street and this week shoving a woman clutching a 9-month-old child.
Six members in the gang, using the name “A-Block,” were arrested Wednesday night after turning on several residents trying to stop a fight.
Lt. John Crowley, chief of detectives, said the teens arrested were all 15 or 16 years old.
The arrests came after residents called to say 30 to 40 youths were on the street, getting ready to fight.
The fight stemmed from an earlier battle on Pine Street, he said.
As they tried to stop the Taylor Avenue fight, one resident was surrounded by the gang, punched and kicked, Crowley said.
The man sustained a deep cut on the top of his head.
Another person was grabbed and thrown down and a woman holding a baby was shoved, he said.
Another resident videotaped the teens, evidence later turned over to authorities.
When police cruisers arrived, the youths tried to run off, but six were caught, he said.
The teens all live in the area and have been causing problems for residents, Crowley said.
“They have terrorized their neighbors for months,” he said.
One of the teens arrested had been involved in an earlier shooting, he said.
