KEENE, N.H. -- A Marlborough, N.H., woman has been charged with negligent homicide in connection with the death of a Massachusetts teenager who died while working on her barn.
Prosecutors said that Mary Corbett knew that a wall in her barn on Route 124 was unsafe when she allowed Travis Desimone, 17, to work in the barn. The wall collapsed, crushing Desimone to death.
The death was investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which recommended $84,000 in fines. That decision is under appeal.
On Wednesday, Corbett was arraigned on charges of negligent homicide, manslaughter and reckless conduct at Cheshire County Superior Court.
Prosecutors said Desimone, of Marlborough, Mass., was using a reciprocating saw to cut some steel pipes when the wall collapsed. Cheshire County District Attorney Peter Heed said the death was not an accident.
"We presented the evidence we had to the grand jury, and they certainly agreed that it was more than a tragic accident," Heed said. "Certainly, when the investigation first started, it appeared to be (an accident). The investigation showed something different, and the result are the indictments."
Corbett was released on $50,000 personal recognizance bail. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Oct. 6.
