EASTON —
Two men are in custody after one allegedly broke into a home, robbed an Easton man at gunpoint and then tried to flee from police in an accomplice’s getaway car.
The homeowner did not report any injury, police said, but said one man broke into his Janet Road condominium, held a handgun to his head and demanded money.
Police said the alleged robbers also stole drugs.
The suspects, both 23, will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, Easton police had reportedly stopped two men in a black Infiniti after the driver, later identified as Daniel V. Deandrade, 23, of 252 South Walpole St., Sharon, had allegedly cut off another driver on Foundry Street around 2:45 p.m.
While processing the driving charges, police were tipped off about the armed robbery at Easton Crossing, a posh condo complex in South Easton, police said in a statement.
The officer then realized the two “nervous” men in the car were the robbery suspects, police said.
The passenger, Aristoteles A. Depina, 23, of 567 Smithfield Road, North Providence, R.I., allegedly tried to flee, but police said they caught and handcuffed him.
Meanwhile, Deandradesped off in his car on Foundry Street, igniting a high-speed police chase by officers in two cruisers.
As torrential rains pounded Easton and flooded streets, Deandrade allegedly lost control of his car and crashed into a tree.
Police said the Infiniti rolled over and Deandrade ran into the woods behind Shaw’s supermarket.
After a 21/2-hour search involving state police, West Bridgewater police, Norton police and state police search dogs, Deandrade was found on Rachel Circle, behind the Easton Center School.
Police said Deandrade had no weapon when they found him.
Both men are charged with home invasion, larceny over $250 and possession of a class D drug.
Deandrade, the alleged driver, was additionally charged with failure to yield right of way at an intersection, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to stop for a police officer, passing in a no passing zone and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
The two were being held in the New Bedford House of Correction on $100,000 bail on Tuesday night, police said.
Detective Sgt. John Lynn and Detective Michael Fox are leading the investigation.
