MANSFIELD - A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night when he crashed into a guardrail in what police said appeared to be a speed-related accident.
The accident occurred about 8:20 p.m. on the ramp from Route 140 South to Interstate 495 South, police Sgt. Ray Maigret said.
The name of the victim was not immediately released, but police and firefighters said he was in his mid-30s and was from out of state.
Maigret said a preliminary investigation indicates that speed probably was a factor in the crash.
There were no witnesses to the accident, he said, but motorists reported that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed moments before the crash.
Another motorist was performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, a fire official said. The victim was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Maigret said neither the weather nor road conditions appeared to be factors in the crash.
