A 27-year-old man is in jail in Rhode Island after leading police on a wild early morning chase from the South Attleboro commuter train lot to Interstate 95 at the Pawtucket-Providence border where he was stopped.

ATTLEBORO

Menko Vy, 27, of 1559 Bay St., Taunton, allegedly tried to ram Attleboro police cruisers before fleeing on Interstate 95 South into Rhode Island shortly after 12:30 a.m. today, Attleboro Lt. Kyle Heagney.

He was arrested shortly afterwards after police from Attleboro, Pawtucket and Rhode Island State Police brought him to a stop in a rolling road block, Heagney said.

Vy was taken into custody by Pawtucket police on a fugitive from justice charge, Heagney said.

Meanwhile, Attleboro police are charging Vy with several charges including assault by means of a dangerous weapon: his car, refusing to stop for police and motor vehicle infractions, Heagney said. Police received a call from Pawtucket police around 12:30 a.m. about a suspicious man bending his rear license plate in Pawtucket near the South Attleboro line and then drive toward South Attleboro with his car lights off, Heagney said.

"We flooded South Attleboro with cruisers," Heagney said, adding that police feared a crime would be committed.

Heagney said Officer Gilbert Bechtel spotted the car at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority lot off Newport Avenue and attempted to stop it.

Instead of stopping, Heagney said, the driver allegedly attempted to ram his cruiser but Bechtel took evasive action and avoided a collision.

The car continued onto Newport Avenue where the driver tried to ram other cruiser and attempted to force Bechtel to rear-end the car by repeatedly braking suddenly, Heagney said.

The driver turned onto I-95 South and attempted to get away but was eventually forced to a stop at the Pawtucket-Providence line with the help of Pawtucket and Rhode Island State Police, Heagney said.

Police also learned that Vy may have been involved in an incident in Taunton about 1 1/2 hours earlier where two police officers investigating a domestic call were nearly struck by a car fleeing the area, Heagney said.

However, no charges have been filed yet in connection with the Taunton investigation, he said.

Vy was scheduled to be arraigned in Providence District Court on the fugitive charge later today. He could fight the charge or voluntarily return after a court hearing.

An arraignment date in Attleboro District Court is pending court action in Rhode Island.

Thanks Harry, you wanna hear about a kick in the balls.

He gets arraigned in Providence on Pawtucket's charges then gives this bleeding heart liberal judge some sob story about how he was supposed to be sworn in as a U.S. citizen at 11AM on the day of his arraignment. So instead of holding him for us to pick up (as agreed by PPD and APD) we get word that the Providence judge is going to release him so that he can make the swearing-in ceremony.

Hats off to APD prosecution and the Attleboro District Court that attempted to issue a warrant before they released him but we were too late.

The guy is soft, he put countless people at risk, purposely ran at least two cruisers off the road to avoid capture and the Providence court gives him a pass.

Kudos also to Pawtucket Police and RISP, they way the roadblock came together you would have thought we practiced it a hundred times. It was a little hectic at first with so many cruisers but it was like we were all reading each others minds and just closed it down with no injury to anyone involved and not a scratch to any of the vehicles.

Any brothers or sisters in the Taunton area want to do me a favor he's already in WMS... It would be much appreciated

That's disgusting. He should have been held until he missed his appointment. I mean, until you got the warrant.
Instead, the judge released a felon to be sworn in as a citizen....unbelievable.

Nice start to citizenship.

Where do they swear them in anyway? Maybe you could have picked him up there.

Nice pinch Gil. I'm shocked and chagrined (NOT) that some liberal puke judge let him go.

I've never had a pursuit go anywhere near the border....is there a protocol for entering another state?

Your pursuits would be closer to international waters before going into another state

They are all are case by case. You can't just say all fleeing felons because that could be someone who stole an Ipod, or forged an inspection sticker.

Wait...you guys are all allowed to chase??? Uniform Pursuit Policy of CT basically says call it off immediately.

Regardless...Gil - why do all the bad guys want to hurt you? No one ever wants to run from me or fight with me....what do you do to them?

Had he not committed the ADW by the time we got to the border we would have called it off.

Once my Lt. herd me say he was trying to ram my cruiser and that the lil sob just ran me off the ramp I was advised to continue the pursuit into Rhode Island.

Although Rhode Island agencies in the past have advised Mass agencies to break it off. It all depends on the circumstances and the co's on duty.

As far as everyone wanting to hurt me.... eh I just chock it up to being a shit magnet.

You're pretty much o.k. for a felony pursuit. Unless of course you chase them into Tiverton RI. That rinky dink piece of shit department will bury you.

Chase suspect ordered to jail

BY DAVID LINTON SUN CHRONICLE STAFF

ATTLEBORO - A man who led police on a car chase into Rhode Island earlier this week was ordered held in jail on $500 cash bail following arraignment Friday in Attleboro District Court.

Menkeo Vy, 27, of 1559 Bay St. in Taunton, was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 95 South in Pawtucket, near the Providence line, after police used a "rolling road block" to stop him.

Vy pleaded innocent Friday to refusing to stop for police, assault by means of a dangerous weapon and various motor vehicle violations.

Police allege he tried to force a police cruiser to hit the rear of his car and drove toward other police cruisers on Newport Avenue when they attempted to stop him.

Police responded after receiving a call from Pawtucket police about a suspicious man bending his rear license plate in Pawtucket before driving toward Attleboro with his car lights off, police said.

Delta, had one last night with MSP no felony involved, 100+ southbound on Washington (Rt1) with three cruisers in tow, he hits the state line (Pawtucket) and the lights / sirens go off but we continue to the next intersection to turn around, much to our delight the sparkling white Mercedes with the $2000 rims had struck a curb and disabled the vehicle.

criminal app issued, perp turned over to girl friend who owned the car, I think he would have been safer with us

I think the judge has a mental disability. Take it from me, if you run from the police and put countless lives in danger and aren't showing obvious signs of psychosis then you should go to jail, that simple. So many people try to "hide" behind there mental disability, usually they have pretty much nothing wrong with them and use it as an excuse. A lot of the substance abusers literally try to hide in the psych hospitals from the police.

$500 bail what is that all about! Whats a dangerousness hearing??? Gee I dunno.

OTOH I remember my first time going to a MA District Court, I was in high school, all excited that I got to observe what went on (it was for a sociology class or something), up comes this guy who took the police on a chase, almost ran a cruiser off the road and ran over an officer's foot. I said to myself, this guy is going down!

After the Judge just let the guy go with a really low bail, plus considering his record as the ADA said, it added insult to injury to the police officers who arrested this guy. To top it off no gavels! WTF is up with that, its not the same unless a judge slams down the hammer! Turns out this is a typical day in a MA court.
