Kidnapping suspect injured in police chaseBy Abby Simons
The Star-Tribune

MINNEAPOLIS — A kidnapping suspect critically injured after a Sunday morning car chase remained hospitalized Sunday night under close watch, while his victim is believed to be physically OK, Minneapolis police said.
The chase began after a 34-year-old woman called police at 11 a.m. Sunday to report that she had been kidnapped from somewhere in Minneapolis at about 2 a.m. The woman reported that after nine hours she was dropped off in the 600 block of E. Lake Street by the two suspects, who had been driving a black Chevy Suburban.
Minutes later, police spotted the Suburban, which had been reported stolen, and tried to stop it when the driver gave chase. The brief pursuit ended when the Suburban crashed at the intersection of 26th Street and Oakland Avenue, Palmer said, leaving the driver with "very, very serious" injuries. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where his condition was unavailable Sunday night. A passenger in the Suburban was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both are under police guard, Palmer said. Upon discharge from the hospital, they will be arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, fleeing police and auto theft.
Palmer said he did not know the motive in the kidnapping, or whether the victim knew the suspects. He did not know whether the woman had been robbed or sexually assaulted, but said she was not hospitalized. The victim was still speaking with investigators about the incident Sunday afternoon.
