Civil Service Re-hire / Lateral Question

Alright gang... let's test your Civil Service Knowledge.

I worked fulltime for a Civil Service Dept., am fulltime academy trained, I left the dept. to pursue another career field that was a bit more lucrative.

My question... how easy is it for me to be "re-hired" by a Civil Service dept. Some people have told me that I remain active for five years and can be picked up by another dept. without much problem as my status is still active. Does anyone know anything about this or heard of this happening? Is it considered a lateral? I took the test in April just in case. Any thoughts?

Im not an expert but I do know that you would be considered a lateral. Just call HRD (good luck). A freind of mine was in the same boat, HRD will send you a letter stating you have status and the date it expires, but like I said you have to call HRD (Civil Circus).
