MIAMI, Okla. (AP) - A Miami,Okla., officer shot and killed a man who reportedly brandished a knife following a report of an assault.
According to a press release issued by Miami police, two officers responded about 9 p.m. Saturday to a couple who reported a man had assaulted them with a walking cane.
When one of the officers contacted the suspect, police say the man was armed with a knife and threatened to throw it at the officer.
Police say as the man threw the knife, the officer fired three shots.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
The names of the officers or the shooting victim were not released on Sunday.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Ottawa County District Attorney's Office are investigating.
