An Anaheim police officer was shot in the leg this morning during a confrontation with a man suspected of indecent exposure.
The injury is not life threatening. The officer, whose name was not released, is being treated at a local hospital.
The incident began when two police officers responded to the indecent exposure complaint at about 8 a.m. at the Best Western Raffles Inn & Suites in the 2000 block of Harbor Boulevard, near Orangewood. The hotel is within walking distance of Disneyland.
A man believed to be the suspect came out of his room and approached his car. Police tried to apprehend him when he fired at them, said Anaheim Police Lt. Rick Martinez.
The man then took off in his car, described as a light colored, four-door vehicle. Martinez did not have a make or license number.
Details were still sketchy, but Martinez said an officer apparently fired back as the man drove off; there is a shattered window at the Ruth's Chris Steak House across the street.
A Canadian tourist said his SUV apparently also was struck by a bullet. It wasn't clear where it came from.
Howard Seraphin said he was in his parked Dodge Caravan with his wife, three children and a babysitter when the vehicle was hit on the left side by the rear window.
No one was injured.
"Me and my family were in the car when we heard a noice like a ping,'' he said. "We just saw the (suspect's) car speed by.''

ANAHEIM, Calif.—Anaheim police have killed a man suspected of shooting one of their own hours earlier, and the freeway gun battle has left a motorist wounded. Sgt. Tim Schmidt says the fatal gunfight took place early Monday. Officers tried to pull him over the suspect as he headed east on the Riverside (91) Freeway.
The man encountered traffic near Brookhurst Street in Anaheim and struck other vehicles before getting out of his car, armed with a handgun. He exchanged gunfire with at least two officers and was declared dead at the scene.
Schmidt says it was not immediately clear who shot the motorist—a woman taken to a hospital with superficial wounds.
All eastbound lanes of the freeway are expected to remain closed at Brookhurst until noon for the investigation.
Sunday morning, an officer investigating a report of a man exposing himself to children at a motel down the road from Disneyland was shot in the leg as the suspect fled in a car.
