PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) Police are searching for suspects after a rash of vandalism. Dozens of tombstones were toppled after teens terrorized a number of landmarks across town.
John Alix of Belchertown has been visiting his wife's grave at Four Corners Cemetery in Three Rivers for eleven years. Saturday, he was brought to tears, after seeing the desecration.
"Who would think of destroying property like that?"Twenty six tombstones were left toppled here and at St. Anne's Cemetery. "What if it was their parents; they don't think of that, they're just out there to do damage?" said Alix.
Palmer police think they've connected the crimes at the cemeteries as well at St. Peter and Paul Church and at Pathfinder Vocational Technical High School.
Security cameras caught as many as four teens getting away on bikes Thursday morning. The state police crime team was called to collect finger and footprints.
Father Stefan Niemczyk has cleaned the damage done. But Thursday morning he found broken glass, snapped rosary beads and flowers strewn about in his neighboring chapel
Police say whoever is found responsible will pay for the damage and face a host of charges.
