A carjacking suspect was shot as he drove a stolen vehicle at a Maricopa, AZ police officer Monday morning.
The incident began after a Maricopa resident called police to say his SUV with his wallet had been stolen at about 3 a.m.
Officer Joshua Paulsen spotted the vehicle and began following. At one point he lost sight of it but soon saw the SUV and began pursuing it.
At that point, according to officials, the driver turned the SUV around driving toward the officer.
The driver allegedly opened fire on the officer who fired back on the stolen vehicle, grazing the driver in the head.
The SUV went off the road into a field and stopped.
Jeff Cisney, 20, was taken to Maricopa Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Officials said he had three warrants for his arrests before this morning's shooting.
Officer Paulsen, who has been with the Maricopa Police Department 18 months, was not injured.
Police are now talking to the other two men in the vehicle with Cisney
