A Memphis Police officer was shot Saturday afternoon while apprehending an alleged larceny suspect.
The incident occurred at Elvis Presley near Elliston shortly before 2:00pm. The officer, a 24-year MPD veteran, was flagged down by a man who claimed to have spotted his stolen vehicle occupied by an unknown suspect.
According to witnesses, the officer stopped the suspect and an altercation occurred. The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries during the assault and was transported to an area hospital in non-critical condition.
Suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to the MED in critical condition.
A second officer (3-year veteran) was also involved in the police shooting.
The investigation is ongoing. The identity of the suspect and police officers have not been released at this time.
Both officers will be routinely relieved of duty.
The pickup was reported stolen by the owner around noon today. The vehicle was taken from a drugstore parking lot at Bellevue and McLemore.
