It's been learned a man died this morning after being shot by police overnight following a market robbery in San Diego.
Late last night officers were called to a reported armed robbery and were setting up a perimeter in the area. An officer spotted a man matching the robber's description.
Witnesses said the man, later identified as Alexander Culley, 23, was armed with a handgun. An officer exited his patrol car, approached Culley and ordered him to stop, police said.Culley kept walking and refused to stop, and then he abruptly turned around and pointed a handgun at the officer, according to police.The officer, fearing for his life, shot Culley in the abdominal area, police said. The officer who shot Culley is a 13-year veteran of the force.Culley was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:11 a.m.
