A SWAT situation in south Dallas ended with deadly results on Friday evening. The incident happened in the 4500 block of Humphrey Drive.
Officers arrived on the scene with an arrest warrant, to nab a man suspected of robbing a bank. The suspect then barricaded himself inside his house, where he held the Dallas SWAT team in a standoff for more than an hour.
During the standoff, authorities were able to get the father of the suspect to exit the house safely.
According to police, the suspect eventually did walk out of the house pointing a gun at officers. Authorities fired at the armed suspect. He then fell to the ground and died. "The suspect did come out of the house and pointed what appeared to be some type of weapon, a rifle, pointed at the officers," said Sgt. Gil Cerda with the Dallas Police Department. "The officers did respond with fire. The suspect is deceased at this time."
CBS 11 News crews heard a total of four gunshots while they were reporting on the scene.
The dead suspect has been described as a black male in his 40s.
Crime investigators are now gathering evidence and clearing the crime scene.
Officials closed down the street and evacuated neighbors while the standoff was taking place. Although the situation is over, nobody is being allowed back until the investigation is complete.
