A Chicago police officer was shot and wounded Friday evening in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood on the Near West Side.
The officer, who was taken to Stroger Hospital, was shot in the knee and her injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
No civilians were involved in the shooting and the intended target was "a charging pit bull," said police spokeswoman Monique Bond.
"The shooting appears to be accidental and is under review by [the Independent Police Review Authority]," Bond said. She could not say whether the officer's injuries were self-inflicted or whether the officer was accidentally shot by another officer.
News reports say it appears the female officer was hit by fire from another officer who was shooting at the dog.
