PLYMOUTH —
A public works employee has been charged with second-offense drunken driving.
Police say Phillip J. Correa Jr., 54, of 32 Lawrence Road, Plymouth, a heavy equipment operator for the town, drove west in the eastbound lanes of Samoset Street for the entire length of the road.
An off-duty police officer saw the incident and stopped Correa about 3 a.m. Monday and waited for on-duty officers to arrive.
Correa registered a .13 on a breath test, police reports state.
Human resources director Patricia Flynn said town officials were aware of the arrest and had seen the police report but have taken no action because Correa is on vacation.
Correa pleaded innocent Tuesday in Plymouth District Court to charges of second-offense drunken driving and lane violations. He is due back in court July 17.
Correa’s driver’s license was suspended automatically for 30 days because he failed the breath test. His commercial driver’s license is revoked immediately, Registry of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Ann Dufresne said.
