Mass Cops Meet and Greet?

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Posted by: chief801

Anyone interested in a MassCops meet and greet? My wife opened a bar in Fitchburg 2 months ago and I would be willing to throw together a little buffet if you folks wanted to get together. Since police week is coming up, I thought it would be a good time to throw this out there to give us the opportunity to put faces with names and do a little networking. I would also get the word out to local pd's that we are having a law enforcement night...Any thoughts? If this goes off...PLEASE DON'T BRING ME YOUR RESUME THAT NIGHT!

Posted by: mpd61

Chief!

Keep J809 AWAY from the h'oures dervies and I'll show up! I'll even brush my teeth for the occasion

Posted by: Southside

Can Dunny be my date?

Cheif,

Does this Buffet consist of the liquid type........ Open Bar....

Posted by: chief801

Sure, plenty of water on the buffet! And of course silly, the bar is open, only $2.50 a beer until she closes! What a bargain!

Posted by: kttref

Ya know, I was thinking about doing a MassCops baseball outting...but down here in CT at the Bluefish! I'm too lazy to go to Mass Have fun everyone (if you do end up doing it!)

Posted by: Southside

I'm in.....if I am off! Post the date!

Gil,

Bring some toys from Paddleboro....this is Dunny's request that she pm'd me. She is shy lately!

Posted by: Officer Dunngeon

Not one word out of you, Gil. Not one.

ANYHOOS!

This sounds like the infamous yet phantom "Masscops Bash" that was always talked about but never quite happened.

Sure, I'm game! Please enter the lottery now to be my date. No, you can't ride on the back of my bike!!!

Oh the fun I could have with that one.....LMAO!!!!

chief sounds like it could be fun, we talked about it in the past but never actually had one. I think many were concerned about the cost of the police details that would be needed to keep this group under control.

Anyone that would like to host such an event feel free, if it's close enough to home and time permitting I will be there

Posted by: Mitpo62

I'm in. I'll bring along the cheese to go with the whine. By the way chief, do you know Charlie Perry? Great man, one good cop.

Posted by: chief801

I know Charlie Perry well, he is a super guy. Still works the volunteer ambulance here in town. He was in my office a couple of weeks ago talking to me about his MIT days.

As far as a date for this gathering, I was thinking about next Friday...anyone interested PM me so I can get a head count to see if its worthwhile doing.

I would drive down for a game, just pick a game when they play the Pride. I just love Bridgeport after dark.

Posted by: PBC FL Cop

I'll be in Worcester the 1st week in June, which bar in Fitchburg is it, we'll probably be looking for a watering hole while I'm there.

$2.50 a beer I forgot what the prices are in Mass, down here I pay $1.00 a draft, not to mention the 2 for 1 happy hours!!!

Have fun.

PS - Hire a deputy sheriff for your detail, I hear the only charge 1/2 price

Posted by: chief801

$2.50 bottles, 1.75 pints

Geessh.

I would go if not for the fact:

I am only puny cadet puke and havent earned the right to call my self officer or mingle with cops.

I am under 21 till the 31st--not that I would drink after the 31st anyway.

And I have the real world personality of a turtle.

Posted by: USMCMP5811

Chief,

I well most regrettably have to turn down the invitation for the meet and greet on the 20th as I have a prior Engagement to keep.

and to top it off, this means I can't get Dunny into j809's Shed.......

Posted by: badogg88

Are you all going to wear nametags with your screen names? Just curious...

If you are going to be near any college, you can usually access the Internet for free (no login required). Most Boston area colleges have wired and/or wireless networks that are open to visitors (if you have your own laptop with you) and computers scattered all over the place for use by anyone that visits the place. You may not be able to print anything, but you can definitely read/write Email.

Posted by: Cinderella

no i wont be bringing my laptop with me.. thats why i was asking if there were any internet cafe's...

but thank u for that Lens i,ll have to get my map out and see whats close to the hotel i,m staying at!

Posted by: Officer Dunngeon

A lot of hotels have computers available for guest use, you should check with the one you're staying at.

Posted by: Cinderella

i checked they have internet connection in every room... but i think i might have to bring a laptop with me.. i doubt i will ...

fingers crossed they will have computers for guests to use somewhere in the hotel..

Posted by: LenS

Check carefully on hotels.

We vacationed at a Marriott Springhill Suites in FL and they had a couple of computers, printers, etc. FREE to those staying there, plus free wired access all over the place to use your own laptop. I think it was this "brand's" policy to provide free access.

I stayed in a Marriott Courtyard in CT and found that they wanted ~$11/day for computer access in the rooms and had no small business center free for the residents.

I stayed in the Marriott Hotel in Nashua, NH and they charged for everything as well. I think it is this "brand's" policy to charge for absolutely everything!

So, even within a chain, you need to check the details very carefully.

Burlington has a satellite campus of my alma mater, Northeastern University. I have no idea if they have free use computers setup on that campus, but somehow I won't be surprised if they don't require a login UID/Password. The more liberal liberal arts colleges in Downtown Boston are more likely to be more "computer friendly". I know that Simmons College is wide open, as I used to do IT support there a few years ago.

Enjoy your trip here.

Cinderella,

I do NOT know if this place still exists, but the website seems to be updated as of 2005. It looks like it might be a kids hangout, not a place that you might enjoy, but what the hey.

The Internet Connextion, 212 Cambridge St, Burlington, MA 01803, 781-224-0373
http://www.iconnextion.com/rates.jsp

Another thought . . . I think we were missing the forest for the trees! Check the Burlington Public Library! All public libraries in MA are open to anyone that walks in. Most libraries have computers free for use of patrons . . . I don't think most restrict it to town residents. Also an increasing number of libraries are providing wireless access so you can use your own computer there for free as well. A lot quieter environment than I envision for The Internet Connextion I noted above.

Bingo! Good guess on my part. Here's the URL for the Burlington Public Library.
http://burlingtonpubliclibrary.org/

The Reference Services page mentions that they DO have wireless access for patrons to use with their own laptops.

Most of us New Englanders don't like anything above 80 either...that's why some of us cherish our crappy winters! I'm really missing snow right now
