AVON —
Dozens of searchers will spend Memorial Day weekend combing a section of D.W. Field Park, hoping to find clues to the disappearance of Jennifer Fay, the Brockton teen who went missing in 1989.
“We only recently learned that this one spot, a combination lovers lane and swimming hole area, was an area Jennifer knew,” said Phillip White, one of the private investigators trying to learn what happened to the teen.
White said there was no hard evidence indicating the teen’s remains may be there, but investigators want to examine the area just in case. “It is strictly speculation but we have to look at it,” he said.
White is part of the team of private investigators, working pro bono through the Molly Bish Foundation, who have interviewed dozens of people and conducted several searches for evidence in the area, with the assistance of state and Brockton police.
Fay was 16-years-old when she went missing Nov. 14, 1989, in Brockton.
Fay, who is now feared dead, was last seen on Broad Street in Brockton after leaving her home with friends.
Investigators originally believed Fay was last seen near Rice’s Market but a man, who now lives in Vermont, told a team of private investigators last year that he saw Fay on Broad Street in Brockton talking to a man in what appeared to be a pickup truck.
Teams of dogs specially trained to find human remains will join state and Brockton police officials, as well as representatives from the Brockton Emergency Management Agency, the Plymouth County district attorney’s office and students from the Boston University Private Investigator program.
Three years ago, on Memorial Day weekend, the team searched other spots in Avon, Brockton and West Bridgewater for signs of the teen.
White said a search on May 24 — Memorial Day weekend — was fitting and he hoped it would bring some solace to the teen’s mother, Dorothy MacLean, now of Rockland.
“It is a day of remembering. The memory is 24/7 for Dotti MacLean. This Memorial Day, hopefully we will have some luck in finding Jennifer,” he said.
