SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) A man is dead after crashing into a building early Sunday morning on Albany Street in Springfield.
A massive hole, glass and some scattered bricks are all that's left after an early morning accident Sunday that took the life of a 29-year-old Springfield man.
Sergeant David Kane, with the Springfield Police Department said the crash happened just before 3 o'clock Sunday morning. The driver, who's identity isn't being released, smashed into the side of a building at 215 Albany Street, pinning the driver's side door up against the wall.
The victim was rushed to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. There's no word on whether the victim was wearing a seatbelt.
22News spoke with the victim's cousin who didn't want to talk on camera but said he was with him at a party a few hours before the accident and finds it all hard to believe. Albany Street is also known as gasoline ally to many people. There's a number of gas, oil and electrical companies all packed in on the one street.
There weren't any witnesses around when the crash happened. Police continue to search for answers to the cause of the fatal accident.
Reminds me somewhat of when the truck drove through the Piccadilly Pubs wall in Sturbridge, no fatalities the people were lucky.
