FITCHBURG -- Police charged four Fitchburg men with motor vehicle larceny after allegedly discovering them in a stolen car on Thursday in the area of Gage and Blossom streets.
Police said Johnny Echevarria, 17, of 5 Johnson St., was driving the car when they pulled it over at about 7 p.m.
Police also arrested passengers Nathaniel Colon, 19, of 315 Charles St., Jesus Torres, 18, of 147 Daniel St., and Alcides Hernandez, 17, of 163 Mechanic St.
Officers pulled over the blue Jeep Grand Cherokee the men were in after noticing the car's license plate had only four digits and no other identifying marks, according to a report from Officer Steven Giannini.
Police allege that Echevarria attempted to evade police before pulling over, accelerating as he turned off of Green Street onto Day Street, and then taking a quick left onto Pearl Street, according to Giannini's report.
None of the men in the car could tell police who owned it, Giannini states in his report. Police arrested the four men after learning the car had been reported stolen, according to Giannini's report.
Fitchburg District Court Judge Paul McGill set Colon, Torres, and Hernandez free on personal recognizance in court on Friday. Echevarria, who is also charged with failure to stop and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, posted $100 bail. The four men are due back in court June 26.
