NEW BEDFORD — A man suffered a gunshot wound on his right arm at a crowded carnival Saturday night at Brooklawn Park in the North End.
Police said the victim is 18 to 20 years old and the injuries are non-life-threatening. No arrests had been made by around 11 p.m. Saturday.
The incident happened just before a carnival that attracted large crowds of teenagers to Brooklawn Park ended around 10 p.m. The victim told police he had been shot near a ride, according to police on the scene, but he was being uncooperative.
Officers on the scene said they saw a crowd move across the park at the time of the incident, with the victim ultimately lying on the ground at the northern end of the park.
It is unknown who organizes the carnival, which included a fireworks display, but police at the scene said it is held every year.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
