I have spoken to Many (more than ten) street Deputies who are either Retired full-time police officers or part-timers in one town or another. They have told me that the mandatory firearms and DT courses are no joke and some indicated the firearms course was far superior to anything they recieved as a PO.

Oh, I didn't know they did brain surgery in dentist's offices. So I don't know why they don't work there.

I am glad to hear that you have worked your way to where you want to be, as well as I. So now shall we argue the fact that you guys should stick to the freeways? just a friendly debate?

such hostility. I do live in california, by way of Mass. evidently some people here in mass have a distorted view of thier "power" I invite you to come spend a shift with someone here, and maybe then you will understand the point I was trying to make about every agency working together.

The Feds are at the top of the law enforcement pecking order, so if you aren't a Fed, are you a piece of shit ? I don' think so. You think the Mass State Police are something special ? Check out Connecticut where the CSP are like the Marines and run that state. They are VERY visible and work their asses off. Contrast that to what we have here in good ol' Mass. Nuff said.
So you think a lot of "real" police jobs in Mass. aren't political ? Wake up my friend. The police appointments in non-civil service towns can be very political. Even with the civil service, it's amzing how many find jobs when daddy is a long time Sergeant, or an uncle is the Chief. Mmmmm, maybe it's an amazing coincidence when multiple family members end up working in the same department too.

The two states are very similar, with Troopers performing local police functions in unincorporated towns (Like in Mass)

What does CT do that MA does not ? I'm glad you asked ! First of all, CT does NOT have tiny local police departments for every puny town in the state (unlike MA). Instead, the small towns and rural areas all have a "Resident State Trooper" who lives there and works there. He/she is THE law enforcement officer in that location. They do it all and believe me, they show up alone on a lot of serious calls ---- and no backup within many, many miles. Yes, in many ways they DO run that state!
| Another big difference is that they are visible everywhere, unlike here in MA where they are INvisible. CT is notorious for its traffic enforcement too. In contrast, you can drive for months in MA on 495, 128, 93 etc. etc. without ever seeing MA State Police doing anything --- except occasionally sitting at a construction detail with the strobes going. Zzzzzzz. Where they're hiding, I don't know. There IS a difference between the CT and MA state police. And I've lived in both. |
Just FYI - Massachusetts does not have ANY unincorporated towns.
The big difference is that CT had the good sense to obliterate the Sheriffs.

An agreement was made between the Sheriff and the Chief that they would meet on a regular basis to ensure that there is open communication between the two agencies. The Sheriff essentially will provide gang intel that his dept collects from the jail/HOC to the FRPD, but the deputies would not patrol FR uninvited.
