A 27-year-old driver was arrested last night following a chase that police say sent a Marlborough officer to the hospital when he was dragged by the man's SUV. The officer, Christopher LeDuc, was treated at Marlborough Hospital and released, police said. The driver, Edwin Alago of 71 Clark St. in Framingham, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon - his SUV - assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for officers, driving to endanger and driving with a suspended license, police said. With Alago's processing at the station continuing past the Daily News deadline, police said he may face additional charges. The chase began around 9 p.m., when detectives recognized Alago as he drove on Rte. 85 and remembered he had a suspended license, police said. When they tried to pull him over, he took off and weaved through downtown side streets, police said. When Alago stopped near the Department of Public Works building, officers approached and opened his door, police said. But Alago threw the SUV into reverse, slamming into an unmarked cruiser as LeDuc got tangled in the open door and dragged by his arm, police said. With LeDuc still stuck, Alago then drove forward and hit a marked cruiser before the officer got free, police said. After Alago went back to Rte. 85 and drove into Southborough, officers from both towns cornered him with six cruisers, police said.

MARLBOROUGH — A Framingham man was arraigned yesterday in Marlborough District Court on charges he hit a police officer with his sport utility vehicle, struck two police cruisers, and led police on a chase through two towns.
Judge David Locke set bail at $50,000.
About 9 p.m., Thursday, Marlborough Detective Lt. Robert Jusseaume noticed Edwin Alago, 27, drive by on East Main Street in Marlborough in a red 1998 Ford Explorer. Jusseaume recognized Alago, whose license was suspended for a recent cocaine trafficking case. Police stopped the Explorer on Francis Street.
When Jusseaume approached the Explorer, Alago accelerated and drove west on Francis Street, according to a police report filed in court.
After a short chase, officers stopped and surrounded the Explorer at Valley and Maple streets. Alago then backed the SUV into the police cruiser parked behind him, pulled forward and slammed another police cruiser, striking Officer Christopher Leduc.
Alago struck LeDuc with the Explorer when the officer tried to shut off the SUV's ignition. Leduc was taken to Marlborough Hospital with apparent broken bones, according to court documents.
With his SUV boxed in, Alago rammed two police cruisers to escape and drove down Rte. 85 in Southborough. There, he stopped the Explorer and ran, with police in pursuit on foot.
Police wrestled him to the ground, where Alago continued to fight with police officers before being handcuffed, the report said.
Officer Scott Taylor suffered minor injuries in the scuffle, according to court documents.
Marlborough Police Chief Mark Leonard could not be reached for comment.
In court, Alago's attorney, Mark Finkle, argued for $1,000 cash bail.
Alago, of 71 Church St., Framingham, is charged with three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, failure to stop for police, negligent driving and driving with a suspended license.
Alago is due back in Marlborough District court June 4 for a status review hearing.
