Hamilton police officers have a new eco-friendly device to help them fight crime. Segway motorized scooters cost only 10 cents to recharge, compared to $40 to patrol in a gasoline-powered cruiser for a night. The Segway reaches 12 1/2 mph, making the vehicles an effective crime-fighting tool -- as well as fuel efficient. "We snuck behind an alley and (saw) somebody which we believed to be purchasing drugs," said Officer Eric Taylor. "They didn't even hear us coming, (and) we apprehended that person." Another officer was called out on a missing 4-year-old. "Once we got to there, you can go up and down (the) alley's sidewalks, in between houses, versus the car going by, looking in the area," said Officer Jeff Eck. "Sure enough, we found her five minutes later about six blocks from her house." The Segway is quickly becoming a useful crime fighting tool that helps the Hamilton County Police Department save a little money.
