WINSTON-SALEM -- Four finalists have been named in the search for Winston-Salem's next police chief, City Manager Lee Garrity announced Wednesday. They are: former Police Chief Scott Cunningham of the Cary Police Department; Assistant Police Chief Alan Dreher of the Atlanta Police Department; Assistant Police Chief Kevin Leonard of the Winston-Salem Police Department, and CAPT. Alonzo Thompson of the Winston-Salem Police Department. The finalists were selected through a national recruitment process. The candidate pool was scaled down through interviews, panel assessments and background reviews, a press release from the city said. The public is invited to attend a public forum to meet and address the candidates May 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. Current Police Chief Pat Norris announced last November that she planned to retire in June.
