MANCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ) ― A motorcyclist is seriously injured and two little bears are without their mom after a tragic accident in Ossipee, New Hampshire on Tuesday.

According to fish and game officials, a man riding a motorcycle hit and killed a bear while her two cubs remained perched in a nearby pine tree.

The accident happened at the intersection of Route 16 and 25. The biker was taken Huggins Hospital in Wolfboro, where he is being treated for unknown injuries.

When fish and game officers arrived on the scene, they spotted the mama bear's cubs and made several unsuccessful attempts to pluck them out of the tree. Officials tried to coax the cubs out of the tree until 10 p.m. Fish and game then set up traps overnight to catch them.

The bears -- believed to be only a few months old -- did manage to get down, but they did not go into the traps.

Officials are asking people in the Ossipee area to keep a eye out for the two bear cubs. According to experts, because the bears are so young, they could have a difficult time surviving without their mother.

If they are found, the cubs will be sent to Ben Killim in Lyme, New Hampshire so he can help raise them and eventually release them back into the wild.

Is he a no-kill bear shelter?

Officials Find Cubs Orphaned After N.H. Crash

MANCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ) ― New Hampshire Fish and Game officials have found the two small bear cubs whose mother was hit and killed by a motorcyclist in New Hampshire on Tuesday.

The cubs were found safe and taken to Ben Kilham – known as the "bear man" -- in Lyme, New Hampshire, where they will be raised and eventually released back into the wild.

Kilham has helped raise dozens of black bear cubs for more than a decade.

The biker, John Fadone, 54, was rushed to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, where he is being treated for serious head injuries.

The accident happened at the intersection of Route 16 and 25. Fadone apparently hit and killed the black bear while her two little cubs sat in a nearby pine tree.

When fish and game officers arrived on the scene, they spotted the cubs and made several unsuccessful attempts to pluck them out of the tree. Officials tried to coax the bears out of the tree until 10 p.m. Fish and game then set up traps overnight to catch them.

The bears -- believed to be only a few months old -- did manage to get down, but they did not go into the traps.

Officials say they did find the two cubs on Wednesday and have taken them to Lyme to be with Kilham.

Bill Killim raises bears out in the wilderness and just goes out to visit them. I saw a show about him once. One of the bears gets shot by a hunter at the end. Oops ruined it.
