DENVER — Colorado is rife with gladiator wannabes.
Six of the 40 contenders on the next round of NBC’s “American Gladiators” have ties to the state, including two best-friend Denver cops.
The network last week announced the inclusion of three men and three women from Colorado in the summer edition of the reality show, which returns for its second cycle at 7 tonight on KUSA- Channel 9.
Here are the mini-bios released by NBC about the would-be warriors who will compete for a $100,000 prize:
Landon Jones, 26, is a medical device salesman from Littleton who sells drills and saws used in neurosurgery. A high school athlete, he survived the Columbine shootings. He continued his athletic and scholastic career at Colorado State and started a ministry to help kids who need guidance.
Tony Tolbert, 36, is a science teacher from Denver. Tolbert, the father of two, excelled in cheerleading and gymnastics. He is dedicating his “American Gladiators” experience to his mother, who recently died.
Adam Hill, 40, is an emergency room doctor from Denver. He decided to go into medicine after his dad suffered a head injury from race- car driving. If he wins, he says he will donate all the money to a charity benefiting people without health care.
Vanessa Warren, 35, is an Air Force major living in Colorado Springs. A former Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the Army, Warren also is a group fitness instructor for Moms in Motion, a national group that trains women and gets them involved in charity work.
Abbe Dorn, 28, is a Denver police officer, a bodybuilder and former fitness model. She would love the chance to compete against her best friend, Vicki Ferrari, a fellow Denver police officer and “Gladiators” contender. Dorn lives in Centennial Park.
Vicki Ferrari, 35, is a narcotics officer from Denver. She comes from a police family (her husband is a cop, as well). Nicknamed “Pitbull” by the guys at the district, Ferrari is best friends with contender and fellow police officer Dorn.
