Feds Charge Barry Bonds With 14 Counts of Perjury

foxnews.com — The new indictment stems from the 43-year-old's testimony in the BALCO steroids case

It's about time. So much for him being someone's left-handed DH this season.

Or the next 10-15 seasons, for that matter.

Sad part is they could have had him before he broke the record.

What's even more sad is that the feds have to deal with BS cheating athletes rather than focusing on important issues like the Economy and Illegal Immigration just to name a few things.

It wasn't the cheating which landed him in hot water, it was lying under oath about it. I don't consider perjury BS.

In part, Bonds can thank his lawyer for this one;

I am well aware of that but it was his steroid use (cheating) that got him into the mess in the first place. Perjury is not BS however the original inquiry into steroid use in my opinion did not require a federal investigation.

Major League Baseball has a Congressional anti-trust exemption, so Congress is (and should be) very aware of what happens both on and off the field. During the course of Congressional hearings, Bonds perjured himself and thereby served himself up on a silver platter for the US Attorney, who would have been remiss if he didn't file charges.

Are you saying that steroids should be legal?

This was not an investigation into baseball and steroids.

It started out with an investigation into BALCO and the illegal sale of steroids. Nobody knew that once you started to follow the money trail where it would end up.

Should they have said, "screw it!" once it took them in a certain direction?

Like someone else said, steroids did not get Bonds into trouble. It was his holier than thou attitude that he can do whatever he wants and say whatever he wants.

To include lying to a Federal Grand Jury.

They should have ruined his career before he broke Hank Aaron's record. Not after.
