FRAMINGHAM —
Two men who smoked marijuana in their car Sunday before grabbing dinner at a Rte. 9 restaurant were arrested when they admitted they had "a lot" of drugs in their car, police said.
Christopher Russo, 23, of Framingham, and Sean O'Neil, 26, of Brighton, were arrested at 10:44 p.m. in the Uno Chicago Grill parking lot, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.
The pair were arrested after a witness, whom police did not identify, called police because he saw them smoking marijuana in their car. The man provided a detailed description of the two men, their vehicle and their license plate, Shastany said.
The suspects' Jeep was empty by the time officers arrived, but a glass marijuana pipe with marijuana residue was in plain sight, Shastany said.
Plain-clothes officers set up surveillance on the Jeep and waited until Russo and O'Neil returned.
"The officer told them he saw the pipe and asked if there is some marijauna in the car, and he (Russo) said, 'Yeah, a lot,' " Shastany said.
Russo said the drugs were in a backpack in the backseat and officers found several baggies of pot, a digital scale, packing materials and more than $3,250 in cash.
"It's (the amount) was consistent with distribution, not personal use," the lieutenant said.
Russo, of 88 Salem End Road, and O'Neil, of 353 Market St., were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and conspiracy to violate state drug laws.
Russo was also charged with possession of marijuana.
They were both released without bail after their Framingham District Court arraignments yesterday and are due back in court in June for a pretrial conference.
