FRAMINGHAM —
A love triangle involving a Framingham man, his girlfriend and his roommate erupted into violence Sunday, police said.
Keith Gaynor, 26, was arrested at 7:59 a.m. about two hours after investigators said he destroyed the 71 Walnut St. apartment he shared with his girlfriend and another roommate, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.
Police went to Walnut Street at 5:28 a.m. after a 911 call about a fight. They found several windows on the second-floor apartment smashed, as well as the front plate-glass door.
The woman who lives there, whom police did not identify, let the officers in. They found several broken beer bottles, an overturned poker table and several other broken items.
"She said her boyfriend (Gaynor) learned she and the other roommate had had (sex)," said Shastany. "When he found out, he became enraged and broke all the windows."
While police were still questioning the woman, the roommate, whom police also did not identify, came home.
"He said when Gaynor found out, he went on a rampage," said Shastany. "He was swinging a table leg around, breaking the windows and he went after him (the roommate) with the leg."
The roommate said he ran onto the porch and slammed the door shut. Gaynor smashed the door with the table leg, showering the roommate with glass and giving him several cuts.
The roommate said he then ran away and called the police, the lieutenant said. Gaynor was not at home when police arrived.
Gaynor went to the police station at 7:59 a.m. and denied being involved, but police arrested him.
Gaynor was charged with domestic assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious mischief causing more than $250 worth of damage.
Gaynor also had a Milford District Court warrant that charged him with driving under the influence of liquor, having an open container of liquor while driving, a marked lanes violation, a license plate violation, a seat belt violation and having a forged Registry of Motor Vehicle document.
Gaynor was ordered held on $500 bail at his Framingham District Court arraignment yesterday. He is due back in court on June 9 for a pretrial conference.
