ROCKLAND —
A fight turned bloody outside a Union Street barber shop, ending with one man in the hospital with a stab wound and another behind bars.
The incident took place around 1 p.m. Saturday outside John’s Barber Shop. Jason Smith, 25, of Rockland went to South Shore Hospital after being stabbed. He was treated and released, hospital staff said Sunday.
Police later arrested the accused assailant, 23-year-old Robert MacDonald of Rockland, escorted by his father.
Officer Kevin Gallagher, who was off-duty at the time, witnessed the end of the fight and saw several people fleeing. Gallagher was able to stop a pickup truck from leaving, which was being driven by the victim.
The victim later told police that MacDonald had stabbed him.
MacDonald’s father came to the scene and spoke with police, and later brought his son to the station.
MacDonald was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Additional charges may be filed against him, police said in a statement.
