WEST BOYLSTON - State police say a male driver and a female passenger were killed when the car they were in went out of control and crashed on Rt. 190 in West Boylston.
The accident happened at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday on the northbound side of the highway near Exit 5.
State police say the car struck the jersey barrier on the left side of the roadway, then careened across the road and slammed into the guardrail on the opposite side.
The names of the two people who died have not been released.
Investigators say neither person was wearing a seat belt and that speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.

I talked to a couple of Mass Highway guys who were at the accident setting up arrowboards and such and they said it was one of worst they had seen in a while. The car, a Dodge Viper, was wedged under the guardrail.

Seat belts do save lives. All though some accidents nothing will save you. (This accident pictured below is one of them) Some people don't get the message. A person's relative dies in a car accident, in which the relative was ejected, everyone else lived. If only that person's relative wore their seatbelt. I then notice the person not wearing their seatbelt (to think they would have learned after losing a loved one!)

Here is a pic from the T&G

The victims in this crash were the step sister and brother-in-law of one of Hudsons finest, and were the parents of three young children. Lets keep our thoughts and our prayers with him and his family.

Witness details crash

Princeton couple are I-190 victims

Massachusetts State Police investigate the scene of a double fatal accident on I-190 North in West Boylston.

WEST BOYLSTON— Mary K. Hakkinen had just spent the day selling flowers on the roadside with her son and was driving on Interstate 190 north on her way back to Orange.

Her speedometer was set at 60 miles per hour as she watched cars pass. Then Ms. Hakkinen, 51, noticed two cars rapidly approaching in the left lane.

Within moments, sparks flew as she watched one of the cars hit the concrete barrier on the left. Another car, a 2003 Dodge Viper, followed behind and also began skidding along the barrier.

Debris from the luxury sports car flew at her car, sparks spraying.

“I was engulfed in sparks at one moment,” she said.

The Viper then cut in front of her and struck the guardrail on the right side of the road where it became wedged.

Ms. Hakkinen stopped her car, jumped out and ran to the crashed vehicle. The Viper was smoking; music from the sound system was blaring.

“Can anyone hear me,” she yelled into the car which had its roof shaved off. She knew there was a man inside, but no response came back.

“I just had the most wonderful Mother’s Day. I was thinking this was a perfect day,” she said sobbing during a telephone interview. “All I could think of was it was somebody’s son. I couldn’t believe what was happening.”

The two people in the car, a man and woman whom state police have not identified, died in the Sunday night crash on I-190, near Exit 5.

The Telegram & Gazette has learned, however, that the crash victims were Michelle and Todd Marsh of Princeton. They have three children and recently opened Curious Kids Early Childcare Development in Hudson.

A woman who answered the phone there yesterday declined to comment.

A family member contacted through e-mail yesterday said Mrs. Marsh’s father died last year, and the family is in shock because of the latest tragedy.

The accident, which occurred around 9:45 p.m., remains under investigation by state police.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Hari Arisetty indicates that Mr. Marsh, a developer, was driving the Viper north on I-190, about one mile before Exit 5, when he lost control, struck the concrete barrier on the left side of the road and veered across the travel lanes, striking the guardrail on the right side of the road.

State police said they had no other information about a second car.

The husband and wife were not wearing seatbelts and suffered fatal injuries in the crash, state police said.

“Although speed appears to have been a factor, this crash remains under investigation, with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section,” a state police news release stated.

The West Boylston fire and police departments responded to the scene and the right lane of I-190 north was closed for about four hours.

Witnesses the night of the crash said the couple’s car was going faster than 75 miles per hour.

A Pepperell man who was driving with his family saw the Dodge Viper and a smaller, silver car pass him. The man said he was driving with his family — about 70 to 75 miles per hour — when he saw the two cars pass him quickly.

“They blew by me like I was standing still,” he said, declining to be identified. .

He lost sight of the Viper, then noticed cars ahead of him were coming to a stop. He saw the crash and his wife called police. .

Police questioned witnesses, said Mrs. Hakkinen, who noted that authorities on the scene checked to ensure she was all right to drive after witnessing the crash.

“It all happened so fast,” she said. “If I hadn’t slowed down, he probably would have hit me in my driver’s side. I’m very sorry two people ended up dead.”

The 70+ comments (and counting) on the T&G website range from everything like "my prayers and thoughts, etc" to "the f'ing state cops sitting on details" blah blah blah.

Complaining that "no cops are ever out there", and when they are "why ticket someone doing only 80 in a 65", ad nauseum.

Does this infuriate anyone else? State Police won't release the identification of occupants (pending notification of family/ongoing sensitive investigation...etc), but the f'ing paper digs and releases the names anyways?? What benefit do they get from releasing them despite the police saying no?? These reporters are out of control..they are doing some REALLY shady things to another police officer under invest that would never fly with Joe Public.....

Police looking for second car possibly involved in double fatal

State Police are seeking information on a vehicle that may have been involved in a double-fatal accident that killed a Princeton couple who recently opened a child-care center in Hudson.
Todd Marsh, 39, and Michelle Marsh, 40, were in a 2003 Dodge Viper traveling on I-190 North in West Boylston last Sunday when it lost control, struck the jersey barrier on the left side of the roadway, veered across the travel lanes and struck the guardrail on the right side of the roadway, wedging underneath the rail. Neither of the Marshes was wearing a seat belt and both died at the scene, police said.
According to a State Police investigation, the Viper may have been following a second vehicle at the time of the crash. The second vehicle has been identified as a 2002 or 2003 silver Subaru Impreza WRX wagon or similar vehicle. The driver of the Subaru may be able to provide details important to the investigation.
Although speed appears to have been a factor, the crash remains under investigation.
Anyone with information on the Subaru or its driver should call the State Police barracks in Holden at 508-829-4431.
