Main Page Early Morning Cambridge Crash Kills 2

CAMBRIDGE (WBZ) ― A car crash killed two people in Cambridge early Sunday morning.

The crash happened on the Alewife Brook Parkway West at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 16 around 5:00 a.m.

State police say the driver of an SUV lost control while trying to turn left onto Route 16. The vehicle hit a light pole in the median, rolled over and landed on a Volkswagen stopped at a red light.

According to state police, the driver and the passenger in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person in the car was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge for treatment of minor injuries. Two juvenile passengers in the car were uninjured in the crash.

State police are investigating the crash. Alewife Brook Parkway West was closed for three hours as a result of the accident.
