PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A bullet hits a woman in the hand when shots are fired between cars in Providence. The woman was just driving her minivan down the street, with three children in the back, when she was hit.
It happened about 4:00 Saturday afternoon, at the intersection of Althea and Ellery streets. Hearing the sirens, neighbor Terry Evans rushed outside to discover what police later found: a dark blue minivan with a bullet hole in the window.
"I saw the little children in the van," says Terry. "They were shocked!"
Evans says the shooting happened when one car fired at another. The mother driving the minivan was caught in the crossfire. Rescue crews rushed her to the hospital quickly, while Evans says police officers had to look after her children. "I said, look at those poor little babies in the back!... they could've got killed!"
Police couldn't confirm anything related to their investigation Saturday -- whether there are any suspects in the case, or if anybody is in custody.
Other residents say the shooting is proof the neighborhood is not what it used to be. "You don't know; they just drive by and they shoot," says Lucille Tricomi. "And innocent people get hurt. It's scary."

In the OLD days, the only people that got shot were the ones they were aiming for!
