Alright folks. I need some info here. If you know anything please don't hesitate to help me out. Not looking to join blah blah, just need info for something.

Billerica Emergency Mgmt. Police

1. Basically an un-paid Auxiliary Unit correct?

2. Training? Reserve academy? Basically?

3. Paid details? (I was told 32 hours weekly min.)

4. Arrest powers + ch 90.?

5. General duties? Im guessing checking schools, parks, traffic?

6. Any other general info.

Once again if you can help out please do so. I'm trying to clear up some rumors that have been pissing me off. Thank you.

Thank you very much.

If you were more forthcoming about why you want information, maybe people would be more inclined to share...

Good point Wolfman, Well it all starts with a female I know who was fed truckloads of bullshit from guys who work on that dept. Including they have arrest powers (their officers made over 3000 arrests last year) they get at least 32 hours of paid detail time a week, on and on. I am trying to get the real info here.

That comes out to about 60 arrests per week, which is about what we average (sometimes less, sometimes more) as a full-service police department for a city of 100,000 people.

Do you really need definitive proof to know they're full of shit?

Posted by: DodgeRam

Not really. Now I start the shitstorm... Thanks guys. Stay Safe.

Yes, for the most part.

First you have to be a dispatcher for 90 days
FEMA ICS 100, and 700 while on your 90 days
First responder next
Reserve academy to become an officer (get a uniform, go outside)
Firearm qualification next (Glock 21, 45 cal)
Baton qualification
OC qualification

Now you can work on the streets. 6 months of probation however. Mess up once and you are gone. Lee runs a pretty strict department. I don't blame him.

Eventually, if you work out. I'm not sure what you were told and by whom.
I can think of a few guys who might pull off 25 hours a week. We're talking retired guys who are available 24/7. In reality, it's very unlikely.

Yes but no ch 90.

From what I understand, a good 40% of applications are rejected for some reason or another. Some folks who are initially accepted into dispatch are terminated after finding out they lied about something on the application. I'm not saying your friend fell into that category, but who knows. In regards to 'arrests', I can only think of 2 situations where an individual has been handcuffed and detained by BEMA, and in both situations the actions were justified. 3,000 is an absurd suggestion. In reality, those guys don't want to arrest anyone. They don't get paid to go to court. They're there for a resume and a reference.

BPD now requires potential full time recruits to work in BEMA for a period of time. Don't believe me? Call BPD and ask. Even if your 'next in line' on civil service, BPD will tell you to join BEMA first. Chiefs from other departments have been sending 'potentials' to BEMA recently as well.

I'm not a representitive or agent in any shape or form. My information is as acurate and up to date as for as I know as of 07/2008. Please contact BPD directly for verrification or any additional questions.
