I work for the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. I am very happy here. I originally moved down here from Mass. and I would not go back for anything. It was the best decision I could have made. We are a good department with excellent equipment, excellent benefits, etc. 100% of our health insurance, retirement, etc. is paid for by the sheriff. Each road deputy has a take home vehicle fully equipped with laptop and aircard, ticket printer, patrol rifle/shotgun, etc. We have numerous units that deputies can transfer into such as, K-9, marine patrol, aviation, swat, traffic, cid, major crimes, narcotics, etc. If you have any questions i recommend calling our recruiter or checking out our website at www.ccso.org

As far as the PAT test, FHP has a good description regarding it at http://www.flhsmv.gov/fhp/html/pat.html. If you are in decent shape you should have no problem passing. Once hired by us, you are required to pass the PAT once every year in order to stay on the road or stay employed in a certified position. The interview process is just like any other LE interview. It will consist of a oral board interview with approxmately 5 people on the board (civilians and officers). If you pass the oral board you will then be scheduled for the psych eval., polygraph, background, etc. It can be a lengthy process but well worth it. Any other questions just ask.

Wow....the history of the department reads like one long press release from the US Attorney's Office;

Yes some of the previous sheriffs had issues, It is an elected position and there are policticians, and we all know how great politicians are, Don't judge the department based off that allone.......

Didn't mean it that way, it's actually somewhat refreshing to see total honesty on a department website.

Trust me....I know ALL about bosses who make the department look bad.

So I hear; there's a million rumors flying right now, and you probably know as much as I do. We need bodies one way or another.

Ya, I hear ya, I have been thinking of lateraling to a city P.D. How many cops are you guys down? And is the chief still being a "you know what"?

Posted by: Delta784

Chief is gone July 1, and we're down 15-20 at least.

I am not sure. I don't believe so. Usually with previous experience you can get a bump in your starting salary.
