Woman Reports Sex Assault By Fake Officer

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ― A man apparently posing as a police officer allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in Broomfield Tuesday morning, police said.

The attack happened off Industrial Lane in a dirt lot, near 120 Avenue and Nickel after 9:15 a.m. The woman told investigators she was stopped by the man nearby.

He was reportedly driving a light colored vehicle that had some type of police markings on it and a light bar on the roof.

The victim said he told her to follow him because she was wanted on a warrant. She said he assaulted her in his vehicle in the dirt lot off Industrial Lane which leads to the Flatiron Crossing Mall and the Boulder Turnpike.

"She followed him into that area, he told her to get into his car, she did and he sexually assaulted her," Sgt. Colleen O'Connell with Broomfield police said.

The woman later drove to Boulder and reported the incident to police there.

She described the attacker as a white man between 45 and 55 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 to 175 pounds with medium colored blond hair. His hair style was described as short and he didn't have facial hair. He had blue or gray eyes.

"She described him as having a blue or grey police type uniform on with a hard badge on the left breast area of the shirt, a gun belt with a weapon, and she did believe that this person was a police officer," O'Connell said.

Police are looking at surveillance video from nearby buildings to see if they can spot the suspect car.

"We've been able to determine its not a Broomfield officer, we can account for ours, but we don't know if we're looking for a police officer, a security officer, an impersonator, or exactly who we're looking for," O'Connell said.

Detectives were also putting together a composite sketch of the attacker.

Ok, did she not think that if she was wanted on a warrant that she would have been arrested right then and there, not told to follow the jackass to a dirt lot that was out of sight of anything else?

I know that doesn't excuse the actions of the whacker perv, but I do believe that the woman is also the victim of her own stupidity.
