SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A local company is making a full-size decoy cop car, promising that it will scare off speeders and crooks.
The look-alike police car would be placed on the street to stop speeders.
"I would slow down, sure," said one motorist.

Is there such as thing as Impersonating a Police Vehicle? Very creative, but the price seems steep for basically an empty car with an official paint job. This reminds me of when Wal-Mart started putting full-size cardboard cut-outs of Police Officers on the roof of their stores to deter parking lot break-ins.

$13K for a non working car. Why not just place a few older cruiser from the fleet to do the same at no cost. Unbelievable, I bet Cambridge would buy them though.

I have a funny feeling they will also be the last. Seriously most departments do this to some extent already. Some police park an unmanned cruisers in a particular spot for weeks. At first, people slow down. But after about a weeks time, they realize it's just a decoy.

A week later, the cops start manning it and issue a boatload of cites.

I seriously hope this guy did not sink a shitload of money into this company, I give him a year tops if this is their only product.

About twelve or fifteen years ago the big bosses had us parking a marked car in a high drug/prostitution area and leaving it there all day. After about three days of dropping it off at 0830 and picking it up at 1530 we went back to pick it up one day and found used condoms draped all over it and an ounce of weed tucked in between the bumper and the grille.

This sounds like the paper coyotes that are put on golf courses to keep the geese away. They only work for so long.
