CA Parole Agent Attacked At Traffic Signal

This information was posted on another site and bears the need to be brought to everyone's attention. It could happen to anyone at anytime. It occurred sometime in the late part of March or first part of April this year in Southern California.

Agent Timothy Molburg (Santa Ana 3) was on duty, driving his state
vehicle, and he slowed to allow a pedestrian to cross the street. As
Agent Molberg looked down at his map, the pedestrian, Parolee Mike
Carillo G06049, initiated a vicious, unprovoked attack, cold-cocking
Molberg in the side of the head with a full 40 oz beer can. Agent
Molburg deployed pepper spray but it had no effect. The assault was
prolonged, and during the ensuing fight, the agent's neck-chain badge
was clearly visible, and he identified himself and asked the responding
citizen crowd to call 911. Instead, the crowd cheered on the parolee.
Several crowd-watchers videoed the assault on their camera phones. It
is estimated the assault lasted over ten (10) minutes. Molberg was able
to get one cuff on the parolee, and as a result of a 911 hang-up, a
Santa Ana PD black and white unit ultimately responded and assisted.

Mike Carrillo paroled 3-29-08 and was a Control-Services case. His
commitment offense was Possession CS. Parolee Carrillo remains
hospitalized at this time and is under arrest by Santa Ana PD for ADW on
a Peace Officer. A Parole Hold has been placed.

Agent Molburg did not know the parolee, and is not the Agent of Record.
He was released from the hospital last night.

This was a violent, prolonged assault. When pepper spray was
ineffective, the agent was embroiled in a fight for his life. He was
unable to retrieve his firearm because it was under the Lakers jersey he
was wearing. The motivation for the assault is not known. I expect to
get a copy of the initial Santa Ana PD report first thing this morning,
and I can fax it to you if you'd like. I visited the agent in the
hospital last evening. His face is bruised, swollen and discolored, and
his appearance confirms he had been in a very serious altercation.
