FRAMINGHAM —
A Framingham man said he was surprised his wife would call the cops and accuse him of trying to strangle her yesterday, police said.
Leonid Tesmenitsky, 58, was arrested at his apartment at 1640 Worcester Road at 10 a.m., accused of trying to kill his wife, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.
Tesmenitsky's wife, whom police did not name, called police around 9:45 a.m.
"She said an argument over money occurred," said Shastany. "He got frustrated by her and grabbed her by the hair and then grabbed her throat."
Police said Tesmenitsky squeezed his wife's throat and then pushed her with his hand still wrapped around her throat. The wife broke away from Tesmenitsky and called police. Officer Garrett Coffin arrested him after seeing several red marks around the woman's neck.
"He was brought to the station and he made some comment about how he brought her from Russia and he was upset that she would (call the police)," Shastany said.
Tesmenitsky was charged with assault with intent to murder, and domestic assault and battery.
He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Framingham District Court.
