Fed-up Austrian city bans mobiles

An Austrian mayor has become so irritated by hearing other people's mobile phone conversations that he has banned them on all public transport.
Obviously fed up with the number of people talking on his city's buses and trains, Graz Mayor Siegfried Nagl has launched a crackdown.
He's instructed citizens of the Austrian second city to keep their phones on silent when they're travelling – although he admits he can't actually do much to enforce his ban.
Thankfully Austrian text addicts won't be prevented from getting their SMS fix as sending messages and accessing the internet will still be permitted.
But amid fears of an anti-mobile security force being launched to patrol the streets of Graz and hunt down loud talkers, officials confirmed that transit police won't be conducting inspections or handing out tickets.
"I know I insulted the cell phone goddess a little," Graz Mayor Siegfried Nagl told Austrian TV of his hardline move
"But people need to know they don't have the right to be on the telephone permanently and constantly. It's just not healthy to never be able to get any peace and quiet."
A number of British train networks have already introduced mobile-free carriages but these are often ignored by passengers.
