Dad, 20, dies from gunshot to the head

Luis Troncoso called to check on his baby daughter yesterday afternoon. Adamaris Troncoso, all of 5 months old, had the sniffles and had seemed congested when daddy and daughter were clowning around in his Dorchester home Sunday.
“He was always playful like that,” Rosi Troncoso, 19, said of her brother.
But at 4 p.m. yesterday, roughly 90 minutes after his call, 20-year-old Luis Troncoso was shot in the head on the basketball court at Southwest Corridor Park in Jamaica Plain.
He was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he died a short time later, said Jake Wark, spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.
The suspect in Troncoso’s slaying was described as a black male wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a baseball cap.
Friends and family members descended on Troncoso’s Dorchester home yesterday, some weeping, as the victim’s mother struggled to accept the death of another of her children in a little more than a year.
Luis Troncoso’s 31-year-old sister, Irayda, died on Valentine’s Day last year of natural causes, said Rosi Troncoso.
“She still hasn’t gotten over it,” Troncoso said of her mother.
As for her brother, Troncoso said: “He made some wrong decisions but he meant well.”
Meanwhile, in a separate gang-related incident yesterday, four Cape Verdean men in their 20s were shot in Dorchester at about 5:57 p.m. near Whittemore Terrace and Hancock Street, a few blocks from Uphams Corner.
Police said the four victims were known to police.
“A preliminary investigation suggests this incident was not random,” said BPD spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll.
Witnesses said one of the victims ran into K.A. Carlos Bar & Grill, begging for help, his arms covered in blood.
Two victims were transported to Boston Medical Center and another to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, police said. Another man brought himself to the emergency room at BMC. Those four men are expected to survive.
