DOD Police At Edwards?

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Does anyone know if they currently have or planning to have DOD Police at Edwards or Otis?

Posted by: mpd61

If you can find any, you let us know O.K.?
Seems they misplaced the f-106's and f-15 too!

State Police are at Edwards along with the guys in those fancy white pick-up trucks.

There used to be DoD Police at Edwards....they were an absolute disgrace.

About two months ago, maybe three MSP got a little barracks there close to the RTI building, I would think that would be a pretty sweet gig for a trooper. If that's DOD in the white trucks there still there also

Gil, I think the guys in the white trucks are Force Protection. National Guard on State Active Duty. I think they do 6 months at a whack down there. Could have changed, but that how it was a year ago or so.

Last time I was on base unarmed civilian security manning the gates, air force security guys manning the otis gate. Don't know about CG but I believe they were building a new gate aswell.

The last time I saw uniformed MP's at the sandwich/bourne/falmouth gate was back in 04 I believe.

You might want to look a little more closely next time, the guards on the two army controlled gates (bourne and sandwich) are a contract security company called ISA who are armed (carry sigs) there were armed guards on the gate (army augmentees) post 9/11 until the change over to the contract security company in the last few years. The white trucks you see are a private security contractor hired by the USCG to patrol USCG facilities at ASCC, MSP has set up shop on Camp Edwards at the invite of the ASCC Commander, the Air Force still controls Otis and mans the falmouth gate during a set schedule
but not 24/7. that's the scoop....and dont go getting all excited at the possibility of there being a DoD police agency back at Otis.... if you want DoD Police look at Westover, Natick(who recently advertised for a DODPO vacancy), and Devens they still employ a civ DOD police Force

These are the dudes in charge there.

Yeah, I knew they were civilian contractors at the main gates, didn't realize they were armed though. I was under the impression however that the guards manning the otis gate once inside MMR were mostly retired military and on civilian status? Do you know if the CG ever completed that gate complex near the mess hall/softball field?

The "O&M's" at Otis (civ gate guards) are a mix of retired military/police, current reserve/guard and nps civilians, the job is kind of boring and doesnt pay all that well somewhere in the neighborhood of $15-16hr they had a position open recently but not sure if it has been filled yet

as it stands today..its not operational....cg security is unarmed...isa is armed, but dont do anything but wave traffic thru and the air force and civilian officers are armed and trained by air force regs.. with "chapt. 90" in accordance w/ their laws.

yup armed civilians at the base entrance and the guards at the otis gate inside MMR are Air Force AGR's (activated guardsman on 4 yr tours, and civilian "O n M's" which are basically the state version of DOD police, some are retired mil but yes they are civilians. coast guard deals with there own stuff like afcop said n the army does whatever they do with there contractors. i believe there are 4 state police assigned to each otis shift. and the agr's have been charging violaters and showing up to magistrate court. must be nice to have a jurisdiction other than proprietary

I'm not sure how he meant it... but there are no Federal Traffic Laws. Each state has thier own, so... we at federal installations "adopt" the state traffic code of the state we reside. The Federal Magistrate Court in Massachusetts applies the penalties from MGL. We gain our certification in RADAR/LIDAR, FST, Infrared Breath Testing from the MSP to ensure we apply the law in accordance to MGL.

All of this, of course, is if we are dealing with civilian offenders (most of our business). When dealing with military it is the good ol' UCMJ and MCM.

AFChris77, The Air Force is actually enforcing laws on Otis now? Wow, maybe things have changed. They used to never want anything to do with law enforcement there. They wanted the state police or local police to handle everything. What magistrate court are they going to, Hanscom?

Posted by: AFchris77

idk which one they're usuing but i was talkin to the swing shift sup. who may be the day shift sup. now and apparently otis cops are attending magistrate court once a month, statie's help out a good deal too. good to have that resource assigned to flight. i guess that sheriff's dept by the base wanted to hop on patrollin' the MMA after those kids busted thru the gate but command and the state nixed that quick haha. Otis is quite a different place im hearing now. im leaning toward transferring back myself.

There might be a chance that the U.S. Magistrate holds those hearings in Hyannis. A while back the "once a month" thing was held there for CVN's written by the Army Corps of Engineers at the Canal, and the Rangers from out at the National Seashore. Logical that they would include anybody writing them at Otis. BTW-Hanscomb goes to U.S. District Worcester

Posted by: militia_man

mpd61,

Is that something new with Hanscom going to Worcester? There is, (or at least was) a satellite U.S. District Court room on Hanscom in one of the administration buildings, where traffic citations issued to civilians by the Air Force cops and other matter were heard.

Yes, it is new (sort of). Traffic used to be held once a month at Hanscom for Hanscom, Devens, VA and NPS with all jury trials held in Worcester. Now ALL court cases go to Worcester.
